11th KIFC Outreach Program: Inspiring Future Musicians at Rokko Island High School
In a first for the competition, participants visited the music course at Kobe Municipal Rokko Island High School.
During an exchange session with second-year music students, the contestants spoke about their personal journeys and shared insights into their personal relationship with music and their dedication to their craft, answering questions from the students. Their stories provided profound inspiration for the students who aspire to follow a similar professional path.
Later that afternoon, a mini-concert was held for approximately 60 students, including members of the brass band. The students were captivated by the overwhelming skill and expression of the performers. Observing the intricate breathing and musical phrasing up close provided them with invaluable insights to carry forward into their own musical studies.

Rokko Island High School Music Course, 2nd Year
It was an invaluable experience to listen to the performances and stories of the flutists who participated in this prestigious competition held only once every four years. I hope to apply what I learned from this opportunity to my own future performances.
(Flute major)
It was a rare opportunity to hear professional flutists perform right before our eyes. The sound was powerful, and we could even sense the very breath behind the music— it was truly a valuable experience. The pieces they played were all familiar to me, and I enjoyed listening to the flute quartet.
(Euphonium major)
Seeing how they created such a well-coordinated ensemble with people they had only known for a few days reminded me how remarkable professionals are. Although each of the four musicians had completely different backgrounds, such as how they first came to music, and the environments in which they practiced, they created one beautiful performance together. It made me once again appreciate the power of music.
(Percussion major)
Their sound was incredibly powerful, yet beautifully refined — I was deeply impressed. During the exchange session, I was able to hear about why each of them started playing the flute and many other things, which motivated me to work even harder at my own music.
(Piano major)
It was a great privilege to hear a live performance by world-renowned flutists. This experience has become a true gift for me as I continue my musical studies.
(Percussion major)
It may be the only time in my life that I can hear professional flute playing from such close quarters. This experience was truly inspiring.
(Percussion major)
Even with only four players, the sound was full and rich, and it was a pleasure to listen to. It was also interesting to learn how music education abroad differs from that in Japan.
(Piano major)
I usually have no chance to meet professional musicians in everyday life, so being able to interact with them, including those from overseas, was truly a precious opportunity.

Head of Music Course
We sincerely appreciate this valuable opportunity given to our students.
In music education, what is most needed is actual experience — the immediacy and vitality that professional musicians bring to the stage. In this sense, this occasion provided the students not only with the chance to hear excellent performances but also an opportunity to truly learn music in its most authentic form. I am confident that the admiration they felt toward these world-class flutists will serve as a driving force for their further growth.
